So, capitalism and racism grew together from the old order to produce the ‘racial capitalism’ characteristic of the modern world. To be fair, though, the protest zone did eventually become something of a disaster. In Portland only a few buildings were burned down on a few blocks, maybe more. Those buildings were eyesores. I don’t even know of a single building that sustained any real fire or even smoke damage outside of that. The protests downtown were on a single city block and there was no big or sustainable damage to some protestors ,on the buildings on that block. Even the graffiti was only on the courthouse, or on the boards covering windows of surrounding businesses (the boards were there due to the businesses shutting down due to buggy, they weren’t there because the windows were smashed or anything). The 7-11 one block over not only didn’t close despite the damage, they started staying open later so that protestors could buy snacks.
